The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that upwards of one of every two six- to eight-year-old children will develop a cavity in at least one of their “baby” (primary) teeth.
As partners in your child’s oral health, Mona Dental for Kids of Spring, Texas, is also an essential partner in the overall health and well-being of children during their critical formative years. Preventive care and prompt placement of dental fillings support the healthy and “normal” development of your child’s teeth, jaws, and facial tissues. Since oral and maxillofacial health are critical to so many basic functions, by supporting their health, Dr. Mona Houshiar and our team also help to give your child the best possible start in life.
Children with untreated tooth decay are more likely to miss school days due to toothaches and other symptoms than their healthy counterparts.
Dr. Houshiar treats children and children only. So, she is in the best possible position to ensure your child gets appropriate, “non-scary” care. Ideally, visits to our office start at a young age, no later than an infant’s first birthday. Eventually, your child will visit us with the same frequency that you visit your dentist – once every six months.
These visits are all about reducing the risk factors for cavities and tooth decay, as well as for gum disease (the two leading causes of tooth loss). They also allow Dr. Houshiar to detect potential problems early before teeth or gums are irreparably damaged. With good care and services like fluoride supplementation and dental sealants, we can often avoid cavities from forming in the first place. Or, we can reverse cavities and stop the spread of decay when caught and intervened sufficiently early into the disease process.
Composite fillings may be appropriate for children whose cavities or decay cannot be resolved through the other means mentioned here. “Composite” refers to safe, non-metal dental materials formulated with resins (plastics) and glass-like particles or compounds. This material may be expertly matched to blend in with the color of your natural teeth. It fades into the smile seamlessly. So your child can smile confidently and proudly!
“Fillings” refer to the dental restoration applied to replace tooth structure lost due to the erosive decay process. The filling literally “fills in” the hole or cavity left in the tooth by progressive dental decay. Dr. Houshiar painlessly removes damaged tissues. After the composite material has been precisely prepared, she applies the filling to the cavity. With good ongoing care at home and from the comfort of our office in Spring, Texas, no further treatment is typically needed!
