As a talented and approachable “home” for pediatric dental services in Spring, Texas, Mona Dental for Kids supports healthy childhood development. Primary (baby) teeth are supposed to fall out on their own at certain ages, starting with the central incisors. These front teeth are the first to erupt through the gums (between 6–12 months) and the first to be shed (between six and seven years).
Other teeth follow suit, falling out over the next six years. Sometimes, baby teeth aren’t shed on schedule. They get a little “help” from our friendly team. A stubborn tooth may be pulled through a process known as “dental extraction” or tooth removal. Getting the baby tooth out of the way does not interfere with the oral development that plays such a big role in overall development during these formative years.
As a pediatric dentist, Dr. Mona Houshiar will get your child into a consistent, healthy habit of dental check-ups at our office. During these routine visits, she evaluates how your child’s teeth and gums are developing. If the teeth are not breaking through the gums or falling out properly, she can recommend techniques and procedures that are in the best interests of your child’s long-term health.
In most cases, every effort is made to preserve teeth, as a tooth that falls out prematurely does not serve as a “guide” for the permanent tooth and its healthy development. However, there are some situations where the best option is actually to remove the tooth. As needed, we follow the procedure with the placement of a space maintainer, which encourages the proper positioning of the permanent tooth.
Below are a few circumstances that may call for Dr. Houshiar’s precise and painless tooth removal expertise:
Regardless of the situation, all extractions performed at our office adhere to the highest standards of care. Your child’s comfort and safety are our top priority.
